Controversial actor and former Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Cesar Montano has reportedly purchased a luxury vehicle several days after he resigned from office, a source who is working as the sales agent in a Makati Land Rover Dealer told media on Friday.
The sales agent who allegedly processed the transaction earned ₱650k from the sale of 2017 Land Rover Defender to Montano.
On Wednesday, the actor with his driver reportedly took-out the ₱8.5-M luxury vehicle and was scheduled to be brought to Bohol in the next following day.
Montano resigned as the head of the TPB, after allegations of corruption were hurled at him over an P80-million sponsorship deal for the food tourism project “Buhay Carinderia” with Mary Lindbert International Incorporated.
Montano said the project was “endorsed” by then-tourism secretary Wanda Teo.
The TPB said that providing financial sponsorships is part of its mandate to provide support to tourism stakeholders who are “expected to contribute significant returns” that will promote the country.
“Since its inception, the TPB is committed to its responsibility in prudently utilizing and safeguarding the funds entrusted to the agency,” it said.
“Amidst the current controversies, the TPB remains a professional organization that works relentlessly in promoting the Philippines domestically and internationally,” it added.
Puyat is yet to designate an officer-in-charge, following Montano’s resignation.
